My iTunes 9 library filled up on my C: drive. Following the instructions, I relocated it to my G: drive (1TB) and gave it the name of 'iTunes Library'.It copied everything to the new location, and everything seemed to be OK.Today, when I pluged in my iPod Touch (32g), told gave me a message (I wish I had written it down) to the effect that my iPod can only be sync'ed to one I don't remember, sorry). The problem is that both on iTunes and my iPod I've lost all my music, except for two recent purchases.
All the songs, podcasts, etc are present in the new folder, and iTunes shows that folder in the Preferences, but I can't see any of my content. It seems like a simple problem, but. Hi,having an absolute nightmare with my ipod for the past month!!
I bought a new laptop a month ago with Vista on, but my ipod just will not sync properly. Everytime I try to sync, it sync's about 600 songs and then the itunes/ipod just freezes, and when I disconnect it by pulling out the USB lead the same message as above pops up (ie.
The folder cannot be found).I have tried everything I could think of over the past month to try and get it working (reinstalling itunes a few times / holding shift & itunes, then choosing a library / making sure the path name is corret / trying to sync one song at a time etc etc etc) but nothing will work!!!Might someone be so kind as to have any ideas as to what I need to do here??Thanks a mill!
ITunes users opting not to allow the program to automatically keep their folders organized (the default setting) may be well aware that iTunes does not respond well after changing locations of or renaming files. In fact, any change in the file name or path renders the item inaccessible from within iTunes, almost as if your iTunes library disappeared.
To make matters worse, there’s no easy way to have iTunes relocate files moved. ITunes prompts the user to relocate missing files but only one at a time with a dialog that says:The type name could not be used because the original file could not be found.
Would you like to locate it?Not so useful when a lot of files are moved at once. But if a directory containing hundreds of files needs to be moved, to a larger hard drive for example, locating files individually becomes too much work.Of course, there’s always the “fresh start” approach. Just delete everything and start over A good idea if iTunes ratings, playlists and play counts are not considered important keepsake. But to users who spend a good deal of time carefully tweaking song ratings and organizing playlists, scrapping their information and starting fresh may not be a desirable approach.Thankfully there’s an easy workaround for the problem.
A sane alternative to relocating files one at a time (like when you move hundreds or thousands of files). The workaround is straightforward and reversible. And useful whenever moving many files together.Applying it will allow users to move files around in bulk, while still hanging onto most of the iTunes metadata they have likely grown fond of. Note: Some less significant meta information, such as Last Played time, is lost during the process.Addressing the problemProvided below are step-by-step instructions for updating the Library XML to recreate the iTunes Library, enabling bulk file relocation when iTunes files are manually organized.
Backup iTunes Music LibraryBefore you move your files, do the following:. Close iTunes for now. Create copies of the following:. (2x) Library XML ( iTunes Music Library.xml). (1x) Library ITL ( iTunes Library.itl). Note: Windows users can find the Library XML at C:UsersUsernameMusiciTunes and Mac users can find the Library XML at /Users/Username/Music/iTunes.Relocate iTunes files as necessaryBefore moving files note the following two necessary pieces of information:.
The path where the files were previously stored (e.g. D:DownloadsMusic). The path where the files will end up (e.g. E:MusicArchive)Hack the Library XML and delete the Library ITLAfter your files are moved, complete the following steps to implement the fix. Note: In iTunes 8 and 9, choose File Library Import Playlist.Navigate to and Open the modified Library XML.iTunes will then import the file contents into the blank library.Wait for the import to complete.iTunes may display a dialog if any files cannot be located during the import process. The dialog can occur as a result of improper changes to the Library XML, or because the Library XML already contained references to files previously moved or renamed.
The iTunes media folder is the folder location on your Windows PC where your iTunes media files are stored. If you open this folder, you will find a number of different folders that each contain the files that you have in your iTunes library.

Luckily you can learn how to get to the iTunes media folder from the iTunes Preferences menu, which will then make it possible to open the folder from your Start menu. How to Find the iTunes Media FolderThe first step in this process requires you to actually find the location defined in iTunes for this folder. Itunes Could Not Locate Song
When you rip a CD, iTunes uses a service called (formerly known as the CDDB, or the Compact Disc Data Base) to identify the CD and add the names of songs, artists, and albums for each track. GraceNote is a massive database of album information that can tell one CD from another using data that's unique to every CD but hidden from users. When you insert a CD into your computer, iTunes sends the data about the CD to GraceNote, which then supplies the information about the songs on that CD to iTunes.
